Americans are not saving for retirement in ways or in amounts that they should, according to a report based on data gathered by the U.S. Census Bureau.

AUG. 31, 2022 — The U.S. Census Bureau today released data from the 2021 Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP). SIPP is a longitudinal survey that provides comprehensive information about income and assistance program participation of individuals and households in the United States.

Based on historical data, about 17.4% of Medicaid/CHIP enrollees will leave the program once the Covid-19 public health emergency ends. This is because the continuous enrollment requirement, which prohibited states from disenrolling Medicaid participants, will halt.

Statistics showed the oldest Americans were in debt about $17,510 each to their healthcare providers - double the $8,995 owed by 35 to 44-year-olds, the least indebted.

The U.S. Census Bureau found that nearly half of adults ages 55 to 66 had no personal retirement savings in 2017. But a state-sponsored private retirement auto-IRA savings program could give many retiring Kansans a break.
