If you are not moved by the testimony of Marie Yovanovitch today, you dont have a pulse. This is a woman who served in seven posts, president of both parties, more than 30 years, places like somalia. I cant imagine a better example of diplomatic professionalism or integrity than what you have given all of us. World fromross the moscow to ukraine, ambassador yovanovitchs career has been distinguished by service to country, nonpartisanship, and as you can see by her list of postings overseas, by her willingness to take on tough diplomatic assignments and to tell it like it is. I benefited from the opportunity to live in other countries around the world and to travel throughout this country. But i also understood the hardships involved and sometimes the risks. Good morning. I want to welcome everybody to this hearing today. Today, our select subcommittee is a hybrid hearing as some members will appear in person and others may appear remotely via webex. Since members are appearing in person, let me first remind everyone that pursuant to the latest guidance from the house attending physician, all individuals attending this and other hearings in person should be wearing face masks. Now, i did not make these rules. Thats the attending physician rules. And after this meeting i will consult with the attending physician and other authorities, and will make a determination as to whether or not we should recognize people in the hearing who do not wear facemasks. I happen to have been born and raised as the 21st of next month, will have spent all 80 of my years in south carolina. So i know a little bit about rules and i know about and mores.
