Citing instances of violation, the I-B Ministry expressed serious concern and strongly advised against violation of provisions of The Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 and the rules under it.

Taking exception to television coverage of the Ukraine-Russia conflict and the Delhi riots, the government on Saturday issued a strong advisory to news channels asking them to abide by the programme code laid down by the relevant laws.

The ministry told channels to strictly comply with the Programme Code, which requires them to desist from targeting religions or communities.

Centre has asked TV channels to avoid scandalous headlines and provocative claims during its coverage of issues such as Delhi riots and Ukraine war.
