COVID-19 Bulletin (04/20/21) Researchers have discovered a Texas-based variant. Texas two-week average is going up. Researchers at Texas A&M have identified a new variant of COVID-19 called BV-1. BV-1, named after the Brazos Valley is has been observed in one patient who had mild symptoms that lasted about a month. WFAA has more about this variant.  D allas-based nonprofit Project Unity is expanding its free community vaccination event to West Dallas starting on Monday, reports KERA.  The vaccination event will serve a predominantly Spanish-speaking neighborhood as nationwide data shows Black and Latino communities have been hardest hit by COVID-19 and are being vaccinated at lower rates.

The city has partnered with Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA), a nonprofit that does outreach to elderly people. They ll identify Dallas residents who are unable to get to a vaccination site. The vaccinations will be deployed by Dallas Fire Rescue (DFR) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) staff and VNA staff. They re going with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is a single dose. According to a release, they ll begin with 500 doses, allocated from Dallas County Health and Human Services.

Dallas COVID Vaccinations At The Potter s House Resume Tomorrow

The Potter’s House Requires Appointments For COVID Vaccine DALLAS The City’s COVID-19 vaccinations will resume Wednesday at The Potter’s House, Mayor Eric Johnson announced Tuesday. The City will administer 5,000 first doses and 3,000 second doses of the Moderna vaccine this week at the southern Dallas church. The City’s contracted vendor, American Medical Response (AMR), operates the site. In addition, Mayor Johnson’s partnership with Uber and Project Unity will continue this week. Project Unity, in partnership with UT-Southwestern, is hosting an all-day vaccination event on Saturday at Red Bird Mall and will make promo codes for free Uber rides available to those who need them.
