The outbreak has been traced to whole red, white, and yellow onions imported from Mexico, and distributed by ProSource Inc.

The FDA, CDC, and state and local partners, are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg infections linked to whole, fresh onions.

The agency says interviews with people sickened by the outbreak indicate that 75 percent of them ate or may have eaten raw onions.

A salmonella outbreak has affected more than 30 states. Federal health officials link it to onions grown in Chihuahua, Mexico, and distributed by ProSource Inc.

The CDC says that if you have onions at home and you're not sure where they came from, throw them out.

Pennsylvania and New Jersey are among 37 states reporting cases in an ongoing salmonella outbreak that has been linked to raw onions, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The onions were imported from Chihuahua, Mexico and distributed by ProSource Inc. in U.S. grocery stores.
