JJ Cassanga, a security guard who was attacked during the Clover strike in February, has died.

Hundreds of Amathole district municipality workers embarked on protest action against the re-employment of municipal manager Thandekile Mnyimba on Wednesday. Mnyimba’s employment was endorsed by the council after he scored the most points during the recruitment process, a matter that did not sit well with employees.

Protest action has been reported at Bruntville near Mooi River on Monday and on the R103 on the Lions River bridge.
