In conjunction with our Protest Issue we asked several artists the same set of politically-themed questions. These answers were provided by Big Black Delta, the Los Angeles-based project of former Mellowdrone frontman Jonathan Bates.

Boygenius have released a new EP, "The Rest," today via Interscope and it features four new songs: “Black Hole,” “Afraid of Heights,” “Voyager,” and “powers.” The supergroup features Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers. Now that the EP is out, you can stream it here.

Late night TV finally returned this week, following the end of the writers’ strike, and one of the first musical guests was boygenius, who performed “Cool About It” last night on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." The supergroup featuring Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers performed the song acoustically, all huddled around the same microphone, and it was an intimate and special performance.

When applied to a Japanese fighting game character, a punch is never just a punch. It becomes “Megaton Justice Fist” or something along those lines. Just looking at Ela Minus’ grid of synths, sequencers, and drum machines inspires a similar kind of purple prose.

There is a moment during Under the Radar’s Zoom conversation with Jenny Hval and Håvard Volden where the couple (who were in the same room together) unknowingly inhabit the exact same pose together on screen: rolling deep reflecting eyes with the left hand resting on the cheek. It speaks of the fluidity in which the Norwegian duo—who together form the paradigm-shattering project Lost Girls—carry themselves, causing tiny rifts between existence and performance with their presence.

Who knew mortality could be such a lively muse? British folktronica band Tunng was not merely compelled enough by death to dedicate a concept album to it. As if that wasn’t daunting enough—because those who make concept albums are often compared to the few all-time greats that can pull such intricate projects off, like Pink Floyd and The Who—Tunng also recorded an eight-part companion podcast about shuffling off this mortal coil.
