(PNA file photo) DUMAGUETE CITY -The Provincial Health Office (PHO) on Friday reported that typhoid fever cases in Negros Oriental increased by more than 100 percent with one death based on their latest weekly monitoring report. Dr. Liland Estacion, Assistant Provincial Health Officer, told the Philippine News Agency that based on a report from the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU), the province logged a total of 288 cases and four deaths from Jan. 1 to Aug. 27, this year. The figure is 103 percent higher than the 142 cases with no death recorded during the same period last year. Guihulngan City has the highest number of typhoid fever cases at 77; Bayawan City, 29; Dumaguete City, 26; Ayungon, 22; Sta. Catalina, 18; and Canlaon City, 16.
