US officials estimate that up to half a million troops have been killed or wounded in Ukraine to date, with Russia’s MoD calculating that Kiev lost over 43,000 troops during the summer counteroffensive alone.

Three months into Ukraines costly counteroffensive, US officials have announced that the first batch of ten of 31 M1 Abrams tanks will finally be delivered to Kiev by mid-September. Sputnik queried a Russian military expert to find out why the delivery comes too little, too late, and in the case of the Abrams, too heavy, to do any good.

Estimates on just how much these ‘soldiers of fortune’ get paid vary wildly, from less than $1,000 a month to $2,000 per day.
