A meeting was held last Friday at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church to address issues leading to high incarceration rates at the Leon County Detention Facility.
Leon County’s commission chairman is hoping to coordinate a meeting between prosecutors and the Public Defender’s office in the hopes a review of their approaches to clearing cases can reduce the county jail population.
Leon County Commissioner and Chairman Bill Proctor wrote a letter Tuesday to State Attorney Jack Campbell and Public Defender Jessica Yeary to address presentence detention and its effects on the community.
