Danish city design experts studying how Wellington walks

A memo to the LGWM project steering group revealed the study is focused on identifying and understanding the most common walking routes in the city. “We currently count people walking annually, but we don’t study how, where or why they walk or why they may choose not to walk, “ the memo said. “To unlock and better understand which barriers there are to increasing pedestrian commutes and establishing an efficient and engaging pedestrian network we need to understand which environments encourage walking.” GEHL ARCHITECTS Henriette Vamburg of Gehl Architects is leading a study hoping to turn Wellington into a Copenhagen-style pedestrian paradise.
