Details regarding the exact specifications of the Tata Punch EV are yet to be revealed, but experts in the industry foresee the incorporation of a marginally larger battery pack in comparison to the 24kWh unit found in the Tiago EV and Tigor EV models. Envisaged to boast an ARAI-certified range of around 350km and equipped with fast-charging capabilities, the Tata Punch EV is positioned to create a significant impression in the electric vehicle sector.

Punch EV will become the fourth model in Tata Motors lineup to get a fully-electric version. The other three models in Tatas EV lineup are Nexon, Tigor and Tiago.

Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the Punch EV with electrifying features in late October this year. The vehicle will rival the likes of Citroen eC3.

"Five years back, electric vehicles used to sell just 90 units a month. Today these sell 8,500 to 9,500 units a month, which is like 100 times more...five years back the industry had sold about 2,000 cars and we are talking about already an annualised run rate this year of more than one lakh units so its a 50 times growth," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra told reporters.

Tata Motors will be launching the electric version of Harrier and then later Punch EV this year and Curve EV will follow in first quarter of next year.

Tata Motors, which already leads the electric vehicle race in India by a big margin over other EV makers, wants 50 per cent of its vehicles to be electric soon.

Tata Motors India and Jaguar Land Rover are concentrating on electric vehicles, with hybrid models currently not being prioritized, according to Chairman N Chandrasekaran. At the virtual AGM, he stated that the firm expects 50% of its automobiles to be electric or green mobility vehicles.

Just like other Tata EVs, the Tata Punch EV is also likely to get multiple battery pack options.
