The Bombay High Court bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni on Wednesday pulled up the Maharashtra government for filing a pathetic affidavit in response to a PIL highlighting assault on doctors. Least we can say is pathetic. We are sorry but this is just a pathetic affidavit, the bench remarked.
The bench was seized with a criminal public interest litigation (CRPIL) filed by Pune-based Dr Rajeev Joshi seeking enforcement of guidelines for the protection of doctors from assault by kin of patients.

The Bombay High Court bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni on Thursday said it is the obligation of the Maharashtra government to protect the doctors from any kind of assault on them by the relatives of patients, especially during the prevailing situation.
The bench led by CJ Datta has also ordered the Maharashtra government to submit a detailed note spelling out the total number of FIRs lodged over incidents of assault on doctors and also the provisions of law invoked against the assailants in these cases.

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on a PIL seeking guidelines for the protection of doctors across Maharashtra from being assaulted by the families of patients, for a week.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni while hearing a PIL filed by Pune-based Dr Rajeev Joshi through advocate Nitin Deshpande, allowed some associations to intervene in the matter.
The bench has allowed the association of medical consultants from Pune to intervene into the matter and place its stand on the issue. The judges have also allowed association of hospitals as a party to be heard in the proceedings.
