Pärnu City Council has a new chair after a vote of no-confidence in Andrei Korobeinki (Center) saw him ousted from the post and replaced by Andres Metsoja (Isamaa) Friday.
Fallout from the recent power switch in the southwestern city of Pärnu, which saw Isamaa replace Center in office, has led to motions of no-confidence being submitted in both directions.
Isamaa has replaced the Center Party in Pärnu's city government, after signing a new coalition agreement with Reform and electoral alliance Pärnu Ühendab. The development means Center is now in opposition, and follows wrangling over the funding of the construction of a new bridge planned for the city center.
Mayor of Pärnu Romek Kosenkranius (Pärnu Ühendab) denies claims that he is seeking to remove the Center Party from the city's government, adding that it is Center who are attempting to ring the changes, amid controversy over the potential issuing of several million euros of state funds for the construction of a bridge in the city.
