Bipartisan Senate CBD bill introduced A US Senate bill to specifically allow the use of CBD and other hemp derivatives in dietary supplements and foods has been introduced with bipartisan sponsorship. The bill also enjoys broad support within the industry.
The bill was introduced today by US Sens. Ron Wyden, D-OR, Rand Paul, R-KY and Jeff Merkley, D-OR.
FDA has ruled that CBD is not a legal dietary ingredient because it was first investigated as a drug. That drug, Epidiolex from GW Pharmaceuticals, has been approved to treat seizures in children suffering from two forms of intractable epilepsy.

The product in question is Triple Strength Fish Oil, sold under the GNC brand. In 1.5 grams of oil the Triple Strength product delivers 734 mg of EPA and 266 mg of DHA. The omega-3 fatty acids are delivered in ethyl ester form. GNC sells a three-month supply of the product for $39.99.
Pyatt returns with plant based line planned to launch with GNC Sports nutrition veteran Brad Pyatt is launching a new company focused on plant-based nutrition. The first brick and mortar retail partner will be GNC, which itself is emerging from a bankruptcy sale to Chinese company Harbin.
The new company, called PlantFuel, announced this week that it has an agreement to launch five new products in GNC locations starting in August 2021. The new company’s formulation strategy relies on branded ingredients from well established suppliers.
