i think they failed in their effort to do just that because they were trying to grandstand more than they were trying to do what the american people wanted, which is to hear the explanations of peter strzok. and when they tried to use the questioning process to simply further a particular narrative, whether it was favorable or not favorable to him had i been it s a to get the information. in a trial and i had done this very same thing, there would have been so many objections. let the witness actually answer the question. it wasn t an opportunity for me to simply give my closing or my opening argument. it was an opportunity for him to actually speak. now, whether he carried his own burden of proof is a very different story, chris. right. okay. we re going to get to that as well. let s be fair. it s not a trial, all right? these politicians, they can t even agree on what time it is if they had a big digital clock in front of their faces, and there was certainly a hell of a lot more
entire set of folks who lie on a regular basis, who lie easily, gratuitously, who lie pointlessly. now they re in bob mueller s world where if, in fact, you lie to an fbi agent and it s not something that sarah huckabee sanders is going to be able to spin. these guys are incredibly vulnerable because they are who they are. let me ask you a serious real question. when i worked in the white house h. i ve talked about this before. you and i talked about this monday. scooter libby was indicted by the special investigation by pat fitzgerald because in the questioning process, many, many months after valerie plame s name was leaked, he didn t answer truthfully in an interview. how many white house aides, how many people from the trump campaign have that as a wory right now? i got to believe knish who is before the special counsel has
presumably we understand he was the driver of the van. there were some eyewitness accounts suggesting two other men fled the scene although police are not confirming that, but talk to us about what will happen in the hours ahead. this man, this 48-year-old man has been taken to hospital. that presumably has slowed down the investigation and the questioning process. well, it may have slowed down the investigation or the interrogation process, rosemary, but i guarantee you that it is not going to slow down the investigation, because right now what they re trying to do is determine whether he s affiliated with any organization, any groups, any type of person or organization who would want to hurt people because of their race or religion. that s going to go on full speed even while he s in the hospital and, frankly, unless the person s completely confessing you re not going to get much useful information from them anyway, unless they re defiant
and former c.i.a. director john brennan. he was trying to get at something just days ago. do you recall any u.s. ambassadors asking that names be unmasked? i don t i don t know. maybe it s ringing a vague bell but i m not i could not answer with any confidence. shannon: trey gowdy is a former prosecutor and very methodical about these things. there is already evidence in hand that supports the subpoenas that have gone out. trey would not have asked the question if he didn t know the answer. that s the first thing you do going through a questioning process. you ask only those questions where you know the answer. i think where this goes is you have to remember, these are members of congress who are asking the question. and for the last 10, 15 years as we ve known about what the intelligence community does
about the taliban, given his experiences. this two-star army general will begin by basically looking at the facts, reviewing interviews with teammates that already exist. it s not clear just yet when he will start questioning bergdahl himself. but what army officials are telling us, once that more formal questioning process begins, the letter of the law will be followed. sergeant bergdahl will be advised of his rights, he will be offered counsel. it is a fact-finding investigation at this point but it s a very complex case so they are going by the letter of the law as they always do in the military. if it were to lead to some sort of discipline, they have their case, they have all of the evidence, they have all of the interviews gathered, according to military regulations. fred? barbara, some soldiers have
