Selfless statesmen likely to become ever rarer in the years ahead

Whenever former President Trump issued a significant executive order the familiar outcry would ensue: “The president is not a king!” we heard over and over from Democrats and the leftist media. But Trump, with a four-year EO total of 220, issued fewer than President Obama (276), who upon losing control of both houses of Congress famously declared he would use “a pen and … a phone” to accomplish his agenda.
When Obama cozied up to the ayatollahs in Iran, a group of Republican senators wrote the clerics a letter explaining that under the American Constitution an executive order could easily be reversed by the next president. The shady nuclear deal Obama signed with Iran was, in fact, reversed by Trump, just as it is now in the process of being restored by President Biden. It’s enough to make an ayatollah dizzy.
