Not only was late journalist John Pilger a fierce truth-teller and legend in his field, but also a staunch supporter and friend of Julian Assange.

John Pilger will be a hard act to follow.

Over decades, Pilger exposed imperialist wars and intrigues, defended democratic rights and was unerring in his hostility to reporters who functioned as stenographers of governments.
