The population of critically endangered North Atlantic right whales appears to have levelled off after a decade of steep decline, according to updated data released Monday by Canadian and American scientists.

Four North Atlantic right whales were spotted in the Bay of Fundy Saturday, the first documented sighting in the area this year.

Biologists working off New Brunswick have been seeing a lot lately of a shark species that is rarely seen in the Bay of Fundy's waters.

A right whale that had been entangled in fishing rope — some of which had been removed by rescuers earlier this year — was spotted this week off the coast of Georgia with a new calf.
