time and again consistently downplayed what happened on january 6th. we ve seen his efforts to censure congress members cheney and kinzinger, the only republicans on that panel. meanwhile mitch mcconnell in recent days has really denounced what happened on that day again, denounced the efforts to suggest that it was legitimate political discourse. and has even said he s eager to see what the committee comes up with. how do you assess the situation? how do you see this progressing, this divide? i mean with mcconnell and mccarthy i think we re seeing two leaders who really embody the very spirit of the body of congress that they represent. mcconnell in the senate tends to be a body of congress that has a little more decorum. he condemned the january 6th riots as you said, he has been more outspoken about it, pertaining to the censure he said that the rnc should be supporting members of the party, despite whether or not they might have different or in this
party is, you do have mitch mcconnell that is sort of the bill belichick focused forward. kevin mccarthy doesn t have that luxury. it s like he has to appease the republican party. it s going to cause a lot of problems. it s going to cause a lot of problems, especially if the republicans take back congress which appears to be what they re on the path of doing, and think about the republican party agenda. the last time they put out a platform was 2016. we get legitimate political discourse but we don t get a platform, we don t get an agenda. you just wrote another one. it s the truth, you know? so you get into a position where the republicans are in power next year, all these fights are going to come out into the fore if you don t have substantive policy to rally behind. they do have substantive policy, theoretically, if they say we re going to do the opposite of what democrats and
not engaged in legitimate political discourse. i think there is a reason why that it is happening. the rnc s job is to help the republican party continue to grow, but the rnc has, they also have a responsibility to say their own opinion of others, and i mean, i think a lot of republicans out there look at some of the actions of adam and liz and have real problems with it. both liz cheney and adam kinzinger have responded to comments by the minority lead ther week. after mccarthy s suggestion that cheney isn t planning to run for re-election, her spokesman says quote, as anyone knows, truth has never been his strong suit. and congressman kinzinger had a bit more to say on the bullwark podcast on tuesday. i mean my goodness, having a
