Dimapur, Nov. 2 (EMN): Department of Horticulture bade farewell to its retiring director, Dr. R Elithung Lotha, during a programme held in his honour on November 2 at the conference hall of its directorate in Kohima. Speaking at the programme, the commissioner and secretary of Horticulture, Anenla T Sato, has described the outgoing director as ‘Jewel in her crown.’ She recounted her association with the outgoing director, who she found him to be knowledgeable. She asserted that many of the department’s proposals could see the light of day because of the knowledge and experience of the outgoing director. Our Correspondent Wokha, Aug. 15 (EMN): Advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan, on Monday inaugurated the sub-division Horticulture office at Sanis under Wokha district. The inauguration programme was conducted after the celebration of the 75th Independence Day, where he was also the chief guest of the programme. Yanthan, speaking during the inauguration programme, expressed joy and dedicated the new establishment to the people of Naga in general and particularly to the people of the range, stating that with the inauguration of the new office at Sanis, development and progress would be seen through it. Our Reporter Dimapur, Aug. 4 (EMN): Asserting that the Northeast region has been untouched by the green revolution and consequently, produces organic fruits and vegetables, Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC), Y Kikheto Sema on Thursday requested the government of India to consider setting up a zonal office of the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) in Nagaland, as the state is the ‘heart of the region’ and has a lot of potential. He was speaking during the inaugural function of a one-day capacity building training programme on “Packaging for fresh and processed food products in Nagaland”, organised by IIP at Tourist Lodge in Dimapur. Two Naga women win award Our Reporter Dimapur, July 4 (EMN): Nagaland state faces challenges like high transportation cost, lack of processing units and poor marketing facility, said Director of Horticulture department, R Elithung Lotha, who spoke on the potential and prospects of spices sector in Nagaland during the recently concluded International Buyer Seller Meet and Spices Conclave for Northeastern Region at Guwahati. The two-day conclave organised by Spice Board of India concluded on July 1. Lotha said that other challenges faced by farmers in Nagaland were crop damage due to natural calamities, infestations resulting in decrease of crop yield, non-availability of good quality planting materials, lack of drying machinery resulting in poor quality products, and lack of facilities for proper packaging, labelling and branding of the product, according to an update.
