During his fourth annual Salute to Service Academy Appointees event last week, U.S. Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock, recognized nine Central Texas students who he sees fit for military service.
This year, Carter appointed nine students from Bell and Williamson counties: Cody Little, Temple; Ethan Rodriguez, Belton; Julian Lashbrook, Rogers; Tristen Burton, Granger; Aiden Beasley, Cedar Park; Landon Sanders, Cedar Park; Joshua Coya, Round Rock; Konnor Bye, Liberty Hill; and Brandon Del Rio, Leander.
âNominating students to a U.S. Service Academy is one of my greatest honors as a Congressman,â Carter said in a news release. âAfter seeing their hard work and dedication firsthand, I know that the future of our nation is in good hands. The path that these students have chosen will not be easy, but I have no doubt that they are up for the challenge. I am exceptionally proud of the appointees from Texasâ 31st district and cannot wait to see all that they accomplish.â
The Skylark Airfield in Killeen is set to receive $13,000 as part of a $100,000 grant, U.S. Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock, announced.
The grant is part of COVID-19 relief funds and the rest of the funds are going to other Central Texas airports. The Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport received COVID relief funding in previous disbursements.
âThe COVID-19 pandemic has impacted individuals, families, and businesses in ways we never expected, and our local airports are no exception,â Carter said. âI am hopeful that these grants will ease the burden and aid in recovery as we work towards the future.â
Hilary Shine, the spokeswoman for the city of Killeen, provided a statement on the use of the funds via email Friday.
Texas politicians react to President Joe Biden s address to Congress By Ashley McElroy Texas

TEXAS Not surprisingly, the reaction from Texas politicians to Biden’s address to congress falls along party lines.
Texas Democrats mostly praised Biden while Texas Republicans are warning Americans that the president is trying to promote a far-left, radical agenda.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Houston) prepared several lengthy tweets condemning Biden s speech calling it “The Real State of the Union” and saying “Biden’s radical vision for our country is an American nightmare.”

Today marks one year since former Fort Hood soldier, Spc. Vanessa Guillen, was last seen alive.
On April 24, 2020, Fort Hood officials sent the initial news release of her disappearance, saying that she had last been seen around 1 p.m. April 22, 2020.
In the following days, weeks and months, details surrounding her disappearance, and subsequent grisly end, began to surface.
During a press conference on June 23, 2020, following a meeting with Fort Hood officials, U.S. Rep. Sylvia Garcia, D-Houston, said that Fort Hood officials told Guillenâs family that a supervisor who was conducting barracks checks that day submitted a report that all soldiers had been accounted for, but he had since admitted that he did not see Guillen.
Carter represents the 31st District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The district represents most of Killeen, Bell County and a part of Fort Hood, along with all of Harker Heights and Nolanville.
âOne of the greatest honors of my life has been representing the people of the 31st Congressional District. Weâve accomplished big things together, like ensuring veterans have access to live organ transplants at the VA, securing over $2 billion for Ft. Hood, providing law enforcement with access to active shooter training, and bringing criminals to justice by investing in cold case DNA evidence testing,â Carter said in a news release.
