The so-called CAMPUS Act would allocate $4 million in state money toward several newly-established grant programs, including one to boost security for student organizations in Ohio.

Supporters say the CAMPUS Act would address unrest at campus protests while protecting demonstrators' free speech rights.

The Ohio House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 230, the Saving Ohio Communities Act, announced State Rep. Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County). 

An Ohio House committee advanced a proposal adding a judge in Adams County on Tuesday. The measure now awaits a hearing on the House floor.

A House committee voted 8-7 to pass the bill that goes after complaints conservatives have had about what they call “liberal bias” at public universities, though Speaker Jason Stephens (R-Kitts Hill) has said Senate Bill 83 doesn’t have the votes to pass the full House.

Adams County Democratic Party vice chair Linda Stepp argued, “it appears, in my opinion, that it is an effort to make a job for a crony. That’s the way it looks to me.”

Ohio House lawmakers are working on a plan to give Adams County an additional judge — it’s one of just five counties in the state with a single common pleas judge. According to the plan’s sponsors, Reps. Jean Schmidt, R-Loveland, and Justin Pizzulli, R-Scioto County, local leaders are on board.

Ohio legislators amended a bill Tuesday that would establish a second judge in the Adams County Court of Common Pleas on an emergency track.

House Bill 272, which recently had its fourth hearing before the House Government Oversight Committee but has yet to be voted on, would allow local governments to create an exception to carry a deadline weapon into a building that contains a courtroom when court is not in session.
