07/05/214 It’s been a funny old week, but then life is funny (this is the nonsensical British meaning of ‘funny’ by which I mean both horrible, and kind of alright at the same time). I’ve been playing Returnal and it’s brilliant, apart from the crashing and the not saving thing. Hopefully, they’ll fix those things because they are rubbish. Other than that I’ve been playing Knights of San Francisco on iOS which is pretty damn cool. Nic B has played actual games other than Pokemon...

Have you played any good shoot-’em-ups lately? If the answer to that is yes, I would be willing to bet it wasn’t made recently. The shooter genre has become so much of a relic that the term ‘shooter’ barely applies anymore. What was once a catch-all term for the hundreds of games based on moving a vehicle or character in 2D space and shooting enemies has now become the catch-all term for any 3D game that has shooting a gun as the main mechanic, usually with a protagonist in third or fir...

Good Bydo for now. 30 April 2021 Enjoyably traditional, if a little tatty in places, this is a shooting game that still stands apart from all others. The name is dumb, of course, but Ill take it. Thanks to a certain long-running JRPG series the word Final has lost most of its meaning around these parts, but when R-Type took it on as a suffix back in 2003 it really meant it. R-Type Final was intended as a grand farewell to a genre seen...

R-Type is back! It is perhaps not the best R-Type, but it is certainly R-Type. Really nice to be playing a brand new entry in this classic series, and one that seems to have been a serious passion project at that. However, I would be remiss in my duties if I failed to mention that this Switch version is quite rough. The framerate bounces up and down depending on what’s happening on-screen, and the load times are significant, even between deaths. Those are two things you really don’t want ...
