FALL RIVER  The city’s paramedics have had a difficult year and then some, as they serve on the front lines of the pandemic. But on Friday, they got a sweet treat for their efforts as Bristol Community College collectively honored them as the school’s 2021 Distinguished Citizen. “They were amazing for us at a time where higher education didn’t have much access to (COVID-19) testing,” said the college’s president, Laura Douglas. “They’ve been protecting Bristol and the community as well.” Starting in August of last year, the EMS division helped the school develop an on-campus testing site, administering weekly tests for students and employees who were doing hybrid learning or other activities on campus, like labs. And more recently, the fire department and the Fall River Board of Health have been running a regional vaccination site at the college’s Fall River campus.
