Hello, Radio Readers; this is Kim Perez, and I am coming to you from Hays with a Book Byte for HPPR. The discussion this month centers around the three-book series, March, by John Lewis, Andrew Aydin, and Nate Powell. This series tell the story of critical moments of activism during the Civil Rights Movement from the perspective of one person who participated in them, Congressman John Lewis.

Hi, I’m Valerie a Radio Reader from Topeka and I just finished reading March by John Lewis, a graphic autobiography as part of our Radio Reader series this spring Worth a Thousand Words. So, I’m a history geek and I loved March which is a three-part autobiography of the late senator and civil rights activist John Lewis.

Hi I’m Valerie a radio reader from Topeka and I just finished the first book of our series this fall Graphic Novels: Worth a Thousand Words. The book was Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. I’ll be the first to admit that I do not read a lot of graphic novels nor am I a big fan of the genre for my personal reading pleasure. My main reason for not reading them more often is that the font of the dialogue is usually too small for me.

These people did not leave their homes and jobs and lives by choice or whim. They are fleeing for their lives, even more so than their livelihoods.
