Cord . they are trying to remove pools of radioactive material, i am sorry, fibing in the generator rooms in three of the plants and that is causing problems for workers who are trying to get them back on line and hope to bring the situation under control, harris. >> those people cant seem to catch a break. our prayers are with them. dominic, thank you. >> we were monitoring the system right off of the top of the news cast. more tornado warningings are in. well go live to the fox weather system ...

Irreversible way. you have to plug it up with concrete and its often mixed with a compound of boron. it soaks up newt rons. this is what they did at chernobyl with helicopters. >> are you pairing this to chernobyl? >> well, i am, yeah. everybody remember that at chernobyl theres an area, if you ink of an oval, about 100 miles long and 50 miles wide that you cant live in because this contamination got all over the place, this radioactive material. so as soon as you get leaks like this, and guys c...

>> we dont have any detailed information. we will get our first glimpse of that as they restore power, as they get their instrumentation and controls back. from the main control rooms, then well be able to monitor the levels and the temperatures. thats why restoring power was a critical evolution and getting command and control back is going to be really important. >> you said one of the biggest worries is contaminated food and water. what does this tap water warning in tokyo tell you about the ...

This is indeed the principle issue we are going to have to monitor over the months and years to come. as that radiation, as that cloud of radioactive material drifted away from the power plant, it settled out in the countryside and the ocean. and we know the water sheds that feed the rivers are in those areas. so whats happened over the last several days, as the rain has come down, its washed that radioactivity into the rivers. so while at a local level it may have been a very, very low level of...

Thats why restoring power was a critical evolution and getting command and control back is going to be really important. >> you said one of the biggest worries is contaminated food and water. what does this tap water warning in tokyo tell you about the extent of the contamination? >> another great question. this is indeed the principle issue we are going to have to monitor over the months and years to come. as that radiation, as that cloud of radioactive material drifted away from the power plan...

Monitor quite closely over the months and years to come. as that cloud of radioactive material drifted away from the powerer plant, it settled out on the countryside and in the ocean. we know the watershed that feeds the rivers that supply tokyos water supply are in those areas. so what has happened the last several days, as the rain has come down, it has washed that radioactivity that deposited out, has washed it to the rivers. so while at a local level it may have been a very, very low level o...

Can cool those -- those spent fuel rods. this is, of course, the material letting off that radioactive material. the other thing, kiran, which is important to note is the sea water. you mentioned that in the intro. high levels of radiation have been detected there. the iaea are involved in the monitoring of this. and theyre looking at eight particular locations where they will look at the samples and see how, you know, dangerous, i guess it is for residents in that area. >> anna coren in tokyo t...

Theyre trying to get the cooling systems working again. that is going to be crucial. as you recall, it was a power outage that started this chain reaction that weve seen of one disaster after another at that nuclear plant. they can get the power properly working, get those cooling systems working again properly, they can really start to bring the heat down and ultimately be able to shut these reactors down safely. wolf? >> whats the latest on the food and water? reports that theres already been ...

How are you? >> good, how are you? >> im good, sir. officials say the pressure inside nuclear plant 3 is high but stabilized. what do you make of that? and is it a positive sign, and if so, how positive? >> well, alex, im not a nuclear engineer, but to me, any time they can prevent a release of radioactive material to the environment, thats a very good sign, so im encouraged by that. >> okay, generally speaking, whats your assessment of how much radiation has been released into the atmosphere ov...
