A homicide investigation was opened Thursday into the death of 18-year-old Mona Rodriguez, who was shot in the head by a Long Beach school safety officer and later died from her injuries.

Mona Rodriguez, who was shot in the head by a Long Beach school safety officer and declared brain dead, was taken off life support Tuesday night and her organs were donated to five people, the family's lawyer released in an email statement Wednesday morning.
"She's been dead since the first day she was shot," Mona Rodriguez's brother said. "We just kept her artificially alive just so we could kiss her goodbye."
