Uncommitted voters in the swing state of pennsylvania. And for the very latest, we go to jonathan karl, who was in the room with the president in philadelphia. Jon . On balance, this was a pretty good event for donald trump. He got to show another side of himself, an empathetic side, talking about the incredible death toll from covid19. This was something we rarely see from the president. That said, he also said again he has absolutely no regrets for anything about the way he handled the crisis. He wouldnt do anything differently, and he said some things that are sure to generate controversy. During one exchange with a pastor from here in philadelphia, an africanamerican pastor, the president said, well, i hope theres not a race problem in america. And he had a back and forth that was very interesting on the subject of race. He also said that he believes the virus would go away, even if there wasnt a vaccine. Thats something that i am sure many Health Professionals will disagree with.

I found it delightful and charming and fl reality, much o the kind of hollering, slightlydrunken polls that you get in the conventions, just screaming out the vote totals of the state. We heard from bill clinton and jimmy carter, john kerry, from colin powell. And then to hear from jill biden, who story in a way no one else can. Linsey, what a night. I think the most important thing i take away from it was the backdrop, the use of the white house as a political prop in a way no president could have imagined. Donald trump doing it boldly and defiantly and it looked great. The speech itself he gave went on a long time, and he is an excellent communicator, extemporaneously when hes riffing and kind of lacerating his opponents, reading the crowd, throwing out the red meat, reading a 75 minute kind of meandering speech off a teleprompter is not his strong suit, but his image reminded me of other countries at the president ial palace, not the white house, but walking down the balcony to receive the plaudits of his people. Thats one of the things we havent done before. It was new. And i think the white house was the fault line tonight in the country. There on the south lawn, President Trump and his supporters and outside, the north lawn, on pennsylvania avenue and beyond, protesters, stirred by the demands for Racial
