Import meat issue: Raihanah Cold Storage founders file RM150 mln suit

KUALA LUMPUR: The founders of Raihanah Cold Storage Sdn Bhd have filed a RM150 million defamation suit against Facebook account owner Zaharin Mohd Yasin, also known as Sang Kelembai, who had allegedly accused the company of being involved in the import of non-halal meat issue. Rahman Sheikh Abdullah, 45, and his wife Raihanah Kasim, 43, who are the directors of Raihanah Cold Storage, and the company, as the first to third plaintiffs, filed the suit through Messrs J.S. Pillay and Mohd Haaziq in the High Court here on Jan 27, and named Abd Zarin Mohd Yasin, who is also known as Zaharin Mohd Yasin, 69, a blogger, as the sole defendant.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 Frozen meat supplier Raihanah Cold Storage Sdn Bhd is mulling a RM50 million lawsuit against Umno blogger Datuk Zaharin Mohd Yasin for defamation over a Facebook post linking the company’s complicity in the alleged smuggling of ‘non-halal’ meat. Lawyer Datuk Mohd Haaziq Pillay, who represented the company, said the RM50 million lawsuit involved allegations made by Zaharin in a Facebook post, in which the accompanying caption of the post appeared to suggest that the company and his clients were involved in selling meat which is “haram” under Islamic principles.

JOHOR BARU: Two company directors have been slapped with two charges at the Sessions Court here with using fake halal logo on the company s vehicles. The accused, Rahman Sheikh Abdullah, 44 and his wife Raihanah Kasim, 42, pleaded not guilty to the charges in front of Sessions Judge Mohamad Haidar Abdul Aziz here on Wednesday (Dec 30). According to the charge sheet, the company, Raihanah Cold Storage Sdn Bhd was charged with allegedly using the halal logo without the relevant authorities’ approval on its lorry. The offence was allegedly committed at the company’s premises along Jalan Perniagaan Setia 6 in Taman Perniagaan Setia here at around 1pm on Dec 1.

Raihanah Cold Storage Sdn Bhd, represented by its owners and directors ( pictured), Rahman Sheikh Abdullah, 44, and his wife, Raihanah Kasim, 42,  who were also charged in their capacity as owners and directors of another company,  Raihanah Enterprise, pleaded not guilty to the charges before judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz. On the first charge, Raihanah Cold Storage Sdn Bhd, which claimed to be offering services that are halal,  was charged with using a halal logo that was not certified by the authorities on its Isuzu lorry.
