Defamatory remarks against Taposh: 2 cases filed against Khokon

Two separate cases were filed against former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sayeed Khokon for making "defamatory remarks" against the current mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh. Advocate Sarwar Alam filed one of the cases with the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury around 2:30pm today, our court correspondent reports quoting Ripon Mia, a peon of the court.

Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury will issue an order after hearing the appeals of the plaintiffs, the court s bench assistant Ripon Mia said on Monday Earlier in the day, Taposh vowed to take legal steps against his predecessor Sayeed Khokon. Responding to Khokon’s allegations, Taposh said: “He [Khokon] called up a meeting on Jan 9 to spew venomous words against me. This is an expression of personal resentment.”

SA Alam Sabuj, victim Nasrin Akter s husband, filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury today, Zahir Uddin, bench assistant of the concerned court, told The Daily Star. The magistrate took the case into cognizance and recorded the complainant s statement in the case. The court also directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the matter and submit a probe to it by January 21 next year.
