Indian trials COVID-19 vaccine roll-out

NEW DELHI: India began a two-day dry run for coronavirus vaccination in four states across the country on Monday in preparation for a full roll-out in the near future. The trial covers the northeastern state of Assam, the northern state of Punjab, the southern state of Andhra Pradesh and the western state of Gujarat. Two districts from each of these states will be involved. “Today we will be having the dry run for the COVID-19 vaccine in both urban and rural areas,” civil surgeon in the Punjab-based Ludhiana district, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Bagga, told Arab News. Seven booths have been set up in the district and each booth will vaccinate 25 people.

One immunisation team has two members, so 4,000 teams comprise of 8,000 persons in all. Meanwhile, 1.5 lakh health workers have already got registered on the government’s portal. This drive also includes preparation of medicine boxes. On Tuesday, beneficiaries will be at centres with a proof of SMS on their mobile phones. Tribune News Service Ludhiana, December 18 Four persons lost their lives to Covid, while 75 tested positive for it in the district today. Those who lost their lives included two men and two women. With this, the total positive patients in the district has gone up to 24,259 and the death toll has risen to 947 after today’s four deaths. At present, there are 599 active patients in the district and 94 people were home quarantined today. The active home quarantined persons now are 2,229. Two females who lost their lives today were aged 68 and 65. They belonged to the Civil Lines and Janta Nagar, respectively. The 68-year-old woman had the co-morbidity of diabetes, hypertension and chronic kidney disease. Two men who succumbed to the virus today were both 61-year-old and belonged to Janta Nagar and Daba Lohara Road. Both were suffering from diabetes.
