A total of 669 cases of death in police custody were registered across the country in the last five years from April 1, 2017, to March 31, 2022, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) told the Rajya Sabha.Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai informed the House in a written reply citing data provided by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

MHA says terror incidents in J&K on decline, but cross-border firing increased

New Delhi, March 17 The central government said on Wednesday that there had been a significant decline in the terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir in the last three years but instances of cross border firing from Pakistan have seen abrupt increase. Responding to a question in Rajya Sabha Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home G Kishen Reddy said, “During the past three years, there has been a significant decline in terror incidents and attempts of infiltration from across the border in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the incidents of shelling from across the border have increased during the past three years”.
