The Supreme Court has stayed criminal proceedings against Samajwadi Party leader Swami Prasad Maurya in a case related to his alleged controversial remark on Tulsidas Ramcharitmanas. The apex court issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government and sought its response.
Patna, Sep 15 (PTI) Bihar Education minister Chandra Shekhar has stirred a fresh controversy by claiming that ancient scriptures like the Ramcharitmanas had elements pernicious enough to be likened to potassium cyanide.
The condition of Aazad, the leader of Aazad Samaj Party who was hospitalized after the shooting incident is now reported to be stable, police said. The FIR has been lodged based on the complaint of Chandra Shekhar s accomplice, Manish Kumar. The FIR against Maurya was filed on the basis of a complaint made by Hindu Yuva Vahini worker Marut Tripathi, who alleged that such comments by Maurya were vitiating the atmosphere and leading to a communal flare-up.
Manjhi seemed to be in agreement with the contention of the state education minister who had stirred a controversy by criticising some of the verses in the Ramcharitmanas which portrayed Shudras in a poor light.
