Seven fire crews were called to a building in Barrow’s Duke Street yesterday. They spent two hours tackling the blaze, which had spread through the unused building. A joint investigation between the fire service and the police is due to examine how the fire started. Barrow Council gave the thumbs up on work on the librarys entrance lobby. Plans were put forward to remove a modern screen sub-dividing the main entrance lobby and for installation of fire resistant glazed screens. The proposals also involved installation of a doorway to the librarys original arched openings to reinstate the buildings entrance to its earlier form. CONFUSION over where investment money will end up in Barrow has been addressed by councillors. A BAE Systems manager has pledged to raise money for ex-military and their families by walking 28km with friends. The team, lead by Ian Lofthouse, who would normally take part in the annual Cumbria Challenge sponsored by BAE Systems are set to put their best foot forward this weekend.
