No tolerance for hatred
As residents, home owners, and community members of San Luis Obispo County, we are upset, but not shocked, by the tragic hate crime perpetrated on the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity on the Cal Poly campus. The hate crimes on the campus are ongoing, a cyclical targeting of one group after another who claim individual and/or intersectional identities of female, Jewish, Muslim, Black, LGBTQ-plus, and non-majority identities.
It is common knowledge that a swastika is the symbol used to represent the Nazi party. The wider implications of the sign are terrifying and go far beyond symbolic signaling: Its use is a crime of the most severe degree against these individuals and our collective humanity. Diversity and Harmony is the theme with a selection of short, narrative, and documentary films that showcase varied expressions of the Jewish experience from around the world. Three of the films celebrate the healing and unifying power of music and all the films convey a positive message of understanding through storytelling.

The 2021 San Luis Obispo Jewish Film Festival is going virtual this year.
Organizers are planning to screen three movies with the theme diversity and harmony.
Each film conveys a positive message of understanding through storytelling. We are delighted to continue the SLO Jewish Film Festivalâs tradition in this new format. It has enabled us to expand programming, develop collaborations and outreach in new directions,â said Co-Director Lauren Bandari.
This year s film festival will last three weeks.
Attendees can watch the films live, online with the filmmaker, and a community chat room has been set up where people can share film reviews and discuss live events.
