ANOTHER OPINION: Randolph tenant union fights back over rodent, dumpster problems

ANOTHER OPINION: Randolph tenant union fights back over rodent, dumpster problems Jesse Gordon Special to the Journal & Sun Randolph has formed its first tenant union, the Rosemont Square Tenant Organizing Committee, which it appears is about to achieve a quick victory on dumpster issues. Tenants at Rosemont Square, which is in my district, complained collectively about the overflowing trash compactors, and the rats and mice that accompany them. The Board of Health ordered changes made, which were begun recently, and we’ll hold another rally at 5 p.m. July 14 to keep track of progress and implementation. There was a rally on June 28 at the Rosemont Square entrance at the corner of Chestnut and High streets, with the participation of two groups, the South Shore Democratic Socialists of America (SSDSA) and City Life/Vida Urbana. Many tenants told stories about lack of trash capacity, and the resulting mice and rats they encountered outdoors and in their apartments.

Turner Free Library, Randolph Board of Health to host panel

Community Content Turner Free Library and the Randolph Board of Health recently announced it will host a community discussion about the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color with author Dr. Michele Harper and a panel of community leaders at 6:30 p.m. March 25 via Zoom and Facebook Live.  Harper is an emergency room physician and the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir The Beauty in Breaking. The event will be moderated by Randolph Town Councilor Ken Clifton and feature Randolph Public Health Department Director Gerard Cody. Topics of discussion will include the history of exploitation of Black Americans within the medical system and the importance of ensuring that communities of color have equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccines. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective and the CDC recommends that everyone get vaccinated for COVID-19 as soon as they are eligible.
