Eastland County Sheriff Resigns Following Misconduct Allegations
EASTLAND, TX – The Eastland County Sheriff has announced Thursday that he will resign following misconduct allegations.
According to KTXS, on May 20, the Eastland County Sheriff Chad Roberts announced that he will be stepping down as the sheriff beginning May 24.
The following is a press release about the issue from the Eastland County DA: On January 21, 2021, allegations of misconduct by former City Manager Chad Roberts regarding public information requests under the Texas Open Records Act were submitted to the Criminal District Attorneys Office through the City of Ranger’s legal counsel. These allegations of misconduct occurred while Roberts was employed by Ranger as City Manager/Chief of Police. On Nov. 13, Forest Rangers Hanno and McCartney discovered an illegal camp near a remote pond in the West Canada Lake Wilderness Area. Upon further investigation, the forest rangers observed multiple state land violations. On the evening of Nov. 19, the Rangers apprehended two hunters from Forestport occupying the camp. An interview with the two hunters revealed the pair was responsible for cutting out a trail, cutting 14 trees to build their camp, using a chainsaw in a wilderness area, storing personal property on state land, camping violations, and landing a plane on a prohibited body of water in a wilderness area. Rangers issued multiple tickets for the various offenses.
