Rav Mordechai Kuber s Crossing the Dateline : International Dateline Halachic Issues Finally Resolved

Introduction: An Indispensable Sefer One of the most intriguing contemporary halachic discussions is the many and varied ramifications of the International Dateline (IDL). Many sefarim and articles have been written on this beautiful topic. Therefore, I was hardly surprised when TABC talmid Aidan Samet told me that his uncle, who serves as a rav in Yerushalayim, recently released a sefer on this topic. However, when leafing through the set that Aidan and his parents gifted me of Rav Mordechai Kuber’s three-volume collection titled “Crossing the Dateline,” I very quickly realized that this is not just a sefer on the IDL. It is the Sefer on the IDL. Moreover, the author is not merely a rav in Yerushalayim but is an exceedingly talented posek whose word carries considerable weight.

Rav Mordechai Willig to Celebrate Daf Hashavua Programs

By Pearl Markovitz | January 07, 2021 The endless sea of Torah study can be navigated in myriad ways. Masechet Yevamot spans 122 pages. The current cycle of Daf Yomi completed Yevamot in 122 days. In contrast, Daf Hashavua began Masechet Yevamot in May of 2020 and anticipates its completion only in September 2022. Knowing full well the length of study of this masechet, the Mermelstein family sponsored the entire Daf Hashavua’s learning of Yevamot in memory of beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Shelley Mermelstein, Yosef Shmuel Shmelke, z”l, who was an enthusiastic participant in the local Daf Hashavua Program at Congregation Beth Aaron.

The American Rabbi s Rabbi

The American Rabbi’s Rabbi By Rabbi Haim Jachter | December 16, 2020 If I were to ask our readers if they heard of Rav Hershel Schachter and Rav Mordechai Willig, their answers most likely would be “of course.” However, if we asked if they are familiar with Rav Gedalia Dov Schwartz, zt”l, who passed away last week at the age of 95, the answer would likely be no. Although Rav Schwartz was of the same stature and  caliber (and hashkafic orientation) as Rav Schachter and Rav Willig, he forged a different rabbinic path. Rav Schachter and Rav Willig are quintessential Yeshiva University roshei yeshiva and roshei kollel. Rav Gedalia Dov Schwartz was more focused on the rabbinate and beit din world. For the last 30 years, Rav Schwartz had the final word regarding all highly sensitive matters of personal status questions within the Modern Orthodox community. Hundreds of rabbis addressed their most challenging problems to Rav Schwartz. Rav Schwartz
