The first, a temporary 0.5% sales tax, would be used to fund improvements to the city s parks and build a community center at McCabe Park. Voters were also being asked to approve a permanent, 0.25% sales tax that would help fund the ongoing operation of the city s Parks Department. Unofficial results show both proposals narrowly passing, with residents voting 807-760 in favor of the temporary 0.5% sales tax to build the community center and residents voting 835-737 in favor of adopting the permanent 0.25 sales tax to support the city s parks.

Special election for MH community center, parks refurbishment set for Tuesday

Voters will head to the polls Tuesday in the city of Mountain Home to decide on whether to institute two tax measures – one temporary and one permanent – to finance a complete refurbishment of the city’s parks and construct a new community center with an aquatic complex. Polls are open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the following locations: the Baxter County Courthouse, the Baxter County Election Commission Headquarters at 1 East Seventh Street and Twin Lakes Plaza, located at 759 U.S. Highway 62 East. Only residents of the city who are registered voters are eligible to cast a ballot in the special election.
