Short-handed Cougars just miss on third straight HHC crown

Short-handed Cougars just miss on third straight HHC crown 12/18/20 11:47 PM NEW PALESTINE Following Friday’s result, the last eight Hoosier Heritage Conference Girls Swimming and Diving Championships have been divided evenly between Greenfield-Central and Pendleton Heights. It was the Arabians turn in a close contest at the New Palestine Natatorium Friday, edging the Cougars by a mere 16 points, 393-377. The teams were deadlocked, 251-251, after eight events, but the Arabians’ depth proved to be the difference in halting the Cougars from winning their third straight crown. Carrying On The Tradition: Cougars' Crouch wins HHC diving championship

Carrying On The Tradition: Cougars’ Crouch wins HHC diving championship 12/18/20 12:12 AM NEW PALESTINE  There isn’t much Greenfield-Central sophomore diver Reagan Crouch can’t do, or at least, won’t try. From a soccer player and a gymnast as a grade-schooler to a distance runner on the Cougars’ high school girls cross-country team, Crouch is a year-round competitor, finding time for track and field in the spring and always focusing on her studies. Diving, however, was more happenstance, and it paid dividends on Thursday night during the Hoosier Heritage Conference Diving Championships at the New Palestine Natatorium. Crouch, who placed fourth at last year’s HHC diving meet, soared even higher in her second go-around, posting a personal-record 347.25 points to win the 1-meter title and reignite the Cougars’ traditional hold on the event.

Opportunity Knocks: Marauders, Cougars swimming split during HHC preview dual

Opportunity Knocks: Marauders, Cougars swimming split during HHC preview dual 12/14/20 11:38 PM FORTVILLE Neither side was at full strength Monday night, but regardless of being shorthanded due to COVID-19 quarantines, the Mt. Vernon Marauders and the Greenfield-Central Cougars refused to let up. Not with the Hoosier Heritage Conference swimming and diving championships only days away at New Palestine, beginning Thursday for the girls and Saturday for the boys. Among those focused on gaining momentum prior to this week’s HHC opportunity was Mt. Vernon senior Aiden Tierney, who claimed four first-place finishes for the host Marauders, including a pair of relay wins.
