plan is the real american jobs act. jenna: two sides there. the president out with those comments about the republicans. do you find the president's actions on a bus tour like this helpful in reaching compromise with those across the aisle from you, sir? >> well, i think we just have to continue push forward. the american people, when i go back home to alaska and i'm at the coffee shop or at the store or just meeting with folks in open town hall meetings the issue they tell me, figure out how to keep the economy moving and grow jobs. everyone will say their two bits out there. maybe hyperventilate one side or the other. real facts are clear, the jobs bill we have in front of us, i come from a household of educators. my parents are educators. my sisters are educators. there is no better investment to insure we insure that teachers stay on the job, teaching our young people to compete in this world economy. jenna: comes to how you pay for it. >> well --. jenna: i have a question after the break. i have to take a quick
for everybody. so the provision that's we've got in the bill are ones that most people support. keeping firefighters on the job. keeping cops on the job. putting teachers back in the classroom. giving tax cuts to families. giving tax cuts to small businesses. giving tax cuts to businesses who hire our veterans. i came from hampton and we were down there talking to folk who have served our country. this 9/11 generation. and are coming back after making all those sacrifices and finding themselves fighting for work. we've got to do something about that. the question is, why congress isn't willing to move? and i just want to be fair. i sent congress the american jobs act. and my republican friends put out a plan of their own. and they started out calling it the real american jobs act. they don't get points for originality.
is the most likely competitor out of the conservative primary to take on romney. >> yeah. rick perry ran a state and of the list that you talk about donald trump ran a company. >> donald trump built a $7 billion company. >> so front page of the "new york times" a profile of, picture of the different people down on wall street. members of the occupy wall street movement spread their fight against corporate greed throughout the country as president obama took republicans to task saying the alternative jobs proposal would benefit the very people protesters are rallying against. >> it turns out the republicans have a plan, too. i want to be fair. they called this plan last week the real american jobs act. turns out the republican plan boils down to a few basic ideas. they want to gut regulations. they want to let wall street do whatever it wants.
harpootlian. all right, guys, the white house, why can't they just say, you know, it's part promotion of the jobs act, and it's part campaign? is there anything wrong with that, dick? >> i don't think there's anything wrong with that, but let's face facts. the facts are this president's in western north carolina today, not exactly a baas onof democratic support. and he's getting enthusiastic support for his jobs bill. my question to brad is, why won't the republicans in the senate allow a vote on the jobs bill? you've got to have 60, it's a parliamentary procedure, you've got to have 60 votes to vote on the bill. they won't vote to let it be voted on up or down, and that's what's wrong with washington, and that's why this president has gone to north carolina, michigan, indiana, ohio and elsewhere to take the message: washington is broken, and you can't get a job because they won't vote. megyn: brad, i'll let you take that. >> well, dick, you try to deflect away from democrats. it's the democrats who have nixed this president's ability to get the jobs bill done. three democrats sided with
