5/8/21 A homeless man faces charges that he started a fire inside an electrical box in downtown Iowa City, causing over $1,000 in damage. Iowa City Police were called to the alley between Apartments Near Campus and Szechuan House on the 300 block of East Burlington Street just after 8pm Thursday for a man starting a fire inside an electrical distribution box.  The fire was still smoldering when police arrived. In a release from the CRPD, officers responded to the 1600 block of 30 th Street Northwest just before 6:45 pm  on a report of shots fired. Witness information determined that a man discharged a handgun in the air and threatened to shoot a 23-year-old male. The suspect then reportedly fled on foot. Coralville Police have made an arrest in a shots fired incident from earlier this month. 33-year-old Dejuan Scott was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after noon Friday. Police say Scott was the gunman who fired shots outside his Boston Way apartment building just before 2am on Saturday, January 9 th.
