As governments have changed in Egypt, the commitment to corrupt grand development projects has stayed the same.

Fishers and environmentalists on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) calling for the cancellation of permits for the Manila Bay reclamation and dredging projects.

Environmentalists welcome the move, which has the support of the United States. One of the Chinese companies involved is under US sanctions. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi today called for an easing of tensions following recent incidents in the South China Sea. Under President Marcos’s administration, the Senate takes a bipartisan stance against Beijing's claims.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has issued an order suspending nearly two dozen land reclamation projects in Manila Bay to assess their environmental and social impact, according to his environment chief.

"It took me 10 years to clean my river so there will be no flooding, tapos sasarhan niyo iyong daan ng river ko?" she said.

There are 187 reclamation projects across the archipelago, according to an acquired master list of approved, pending, and ongoing dump-and-fill ventures of the Philippine Reclamation Authority.

Five presidential aspirants on Friday gave their position on the need to implement reclamation projects to boost the economy especially in the local government units.
