WASHINGTON — To help compete for top talent, the Army has updated its regulations for tattoos, cutting processing times for new recruits who have the body art.

The U.S. Army is doing away with its requirement that enlistees have a GED or high school diploma, a move designed to help meet recruiting goals.

Fort Knox is one of 13 U.S. military installations being considered to house a new multi-domain task force.

Army officials said the new policy would better align the service with social norms on tattoos and make the enlistment process simpler for recruits with tattoos in some areas of their bodies that were previously banned.

So far, the service has selected 267 "high performing" recruiters to have their assignments involuntarily extended.
