KE, UNDP to provide SMEs a digital boost

Khmer Enterprise (KE) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) have formed a strategic partnership to give a boost to the operational development of the Kingdom s e-commerce sector and small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), according to a May 11 joint press release.
This new partnership between KE – a start-up ecosystem support arm under the Ministry of Economy and Finance – and the UNDP aims to strengthen and ensure the sustainable development of SMEs and e-commerce in the Kingdom, it said.
This will provide a springboard for SMEs to build their online presence, deliver a new range of products and services, and find the best avenues for international trade, it added.

Today I finish my six-year tenure as the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Cambodia. On 1 May 2021, Professor Vitit Muntarbhorn takes over the mandate. The following statement marks the conclusion of the period of my mandate as I transition responsibility to Professor Muntarbhorn for monitoring, advising and reporting on human rights in the country.
It is now two years since I last visited Cambodia. In that period, I have maintained regular contact with members of the Royal Government, UN Country Team, civil society and member states and am thankful that I have continued to receive information from a range of these sources.

Strengthening the visualisation of ‘Cambodian Economic Dreams’

To strengthen the visualisation of “Cambodian Economic Dreams”, the Kingdom is in real need of “economisation of political discourse” against the current dangerous trend of “politicisation of economic discourse”.
Politicisation of economic discourse is dangerous not just for domestic politics but also for international relations. For instance, Cambodian diaspora is seen as pursuing high-level politicisation of economic discourse when they commonly call other nations to impose sanction on their own native countries.
