He s the radar image. eye safely off the coast. the hurricane force winds are in this core right in here. as of now we haven t had that onshore, and that has prevented a lot of the horrible damage with that. notice the path it took, this black line. this was the saving grace, this jog it took around yesterday afternoon. that really helped us out. we take the black line, the forecast that s been tracking and we re going to parallel the coast today. as we watch this western eye wall here, it s getting very close to areas around the cape canaveral area. that may rake up to daytona beach. so wind damage, but not catastrophic wind damage. as far as the storm surge goes, i need to change some of these numbers. notice the storm surge is really worse northwards. you get the red coloring in here, that s possibly to a ten-foot storm surge and that s starting to happen right now. brevard county has been okay so
Landfall, we re still very concerned with what s going to happen with the storm surge. we ve pretty much cleared you from west palm beach southwards. this is tonight during the overnight hours, 5-7 feet of storm surge, very damaging for the coastal areas. similar with what you dealt with when gene came on shore. because the water can t escape as easily with the winds coming onshore, this is going to be the story as we go throughout tomorrow morning and the day today. looking at some of the predictions from hilton head savannah. a nine-foot surge. it could make landfall by the space coast because of the angle of approach and the orientation of the winds to the coast, when the eye is the closest, so this red coloring in here is the possibility of a 10-foot storm
Still dangerous weather heading your way. in houston, up to 11 inches of rain. our flash flood watches are confined the southern texas and southern louisiana. the red coloring is flash flood warnings that have been in effect for much of the houston area. we continue to watch them until at least 6 :30 in the morning. the radar still shows one last thunderstorm still in the south side of town. i m sure there s a lot of flooding and lightning with that heading from houston south down interstate 45. this map estimates how much rain has fallen. there s one blue spot on the southwest side of town estimating 11 inches. and city wide numerous spots around 8 inches. beaumont heavy rain and flooding overnight too. the radar, as i mentioned, a lot of the storms pushed east.
