Amanda Cowan, who is accused of orchestrating the murder of her estranged husband, is supposed to have a summary disposition (guilty plea) this day on charges of first degree murder. One man, Jacob Cook, pleaded guilty in 2022 to killing Derek Cowan. Derek Cowan apparently had a history of assaulting Amanda. 1 p.m.

Jacob Cook, 29, pleaded guilty to manslaughter Monday in the August 2019 death of 47-year-old Derek Cowan. Cook and three others had been charged with first-degree murder.

The four accused pleaded guilty to manslaughter three months ago. Van Dyke is asking Justice Adam Germain to sentence each man to 10 years in prison for the killing, with reductions for time already served. Saskatchewan Chief Justice Robert Richards dismissed Gamble’s appeal. In the May 5 Court of Appeal decision, Chief Justice Richards, in concurrence with Justices Neal Caldwell and Jeffery Kalmakoff, ruled that the trial judge’s decision to reject Gamble’s request for a Gladue Report wasn’t unreasonable.
