The CEO of Reddit has given an update on the recent API changes while also indicating in an interview that he really doesn't care about general feedback.

Reddit faced a major disruption on Monday due to a large-scale protest staged by its users. The protest was in response to the companys recent implementation of a controversial policy that had adverse effects on third-party apps functionality.

Some are "going dark" for 48 hours while others will permanently boycott the app until the API pricing is removed.

Reddit, the popular news discussion and social media platform, is planning to fire 5% of their total workforce, according to a company letter sent by Reddit CEO and co-founder, Steve Huffman.

This protest is set to involve hundreds of communities, referred to as "subreddits," with many boasting over a million subscribers each. The extensive list of participating communities highlights the magnitude and significance of the protest.

With Reddit planning to start charging for its API in June this year, third-party Reddit client app developers have two choices - either to shut down their services or charge users more.
