The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), an alliance of public broadcasting services, has ruled that the Russian Federation is barred from taking part in this year's Eurovision Song Contest finals, following that country's large-scale military assault on Ukraine, which began early on Thursday. The move follows calls to expel or suspend Russia from the EBU, made by EBU representatives in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland.

Organizers cited concerns that "the inclusion of a Russian entry in this year's Contest would bring the competition into disrepute" in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"In light of the unprecedented crisis in Ukraine, the inclusion of a Russian entry in this year’s Contest would bring the competition into disrepute," a statement from the EBU reads
